routing around an island was created by justinlimbo
hi again. i'm trying to find the fastest route around an island. actually a real race. start and finish are around 100nm away from the island.
as the fastest route might not be close to the island, i wonder what the best set up for my "pathway" might be?
i have a feeling that setting up Marks to go through is not really the best option. a gate on the back side of the island would be nice.
any experience with that kind of routing challenge?

If there is no race instruction stipulating that the island should be left on one side, the simple way is not to use a pathway at all and to route straight to the destination. qtVlm will avoid the island and choose the best side.
Better set the quality of the routing to max.

start and finish is the same around 100nm from the island. the island is basically a rounding mark. so somehow i must tell qtVlm to go around the island.
sorry for my bad explanation.

I may not understand your question, but you don't have to tell qtVlm to avoid the island, it will avoid it because it avoids coasts lines and never crosses them, unless you have changed something in the settings. From where to where is the race?

The race instruction says something about which side it should be left?
If that is the case then the best is to place a very long barrier starting from inside the island and blocking the wrong side. That way qtVlm will be forced to pass on the correct side and will find the best distance from the island.

The direction of rounding the island is free to choose. So far I played around with two pathways and then compare the timings.
