NMEA Filtering

Hello,

We have only recently come across your software after using OpenCPN for a few years.

Can you advise on a number of things.

We have a Raymarine Seatalk 1 system. It has 2 RL70C Plus Plotters a 400G course computer and the usual ST60 instruments and 6001+ Autopilot controller.

We will be augmenting this ST1 backbone with a Digital Yacht AIT5000 Ais Transponder and WiFi server which connects to the Raspberry pi using a single bidirectional USB and a Raymarine E85001 Seatalk to NMEA convertor. Our aim is to put the E85001 as a bridge between the AIT5K and the ST1 network. WE can get all the baot data on the AIT5K NMEA in from the E85001 this will then be MUXed to the wifi server along with the AIS data.

Our plan is then send out the Route/Course/Autopilot data via USB back to the AIT5K either via the USB conenction or via Wifi which will bridge to the NMEA through the E85001 to the ST1 network.

The real question is how do we filter the NMEA sentences in and out of QtVLM?

Cheers
Spart

Hi,
What exactly do you want to filter? Concerning incoming there is no way to put a filter in qtVlm (in the current release, that is planned for a future one). Concerning outgoing connections, you can either send back all (be careful not to create a loop), or select WP related messages (WPL, RMB and BWC), and/or VMG message (WCV) and/or performance messages.
Regards,
Philippe

Hi yes that is the point as we want to filter out any Route/Course/AP messages getting back in via the input. Sending back all will not be helpful I don't think. I also think the Raymarine network expects RMC and maybe a few other sentences.

We are super impressed by your platform. Not used it anger yet as no version for RPi4 Ubuntu we can find. Can we comlie ourselves on the target device?

Cheers

Hi again,
RMC is boat position, speed and heading surely your Raymarine has already all that. If not and you want to use qtVlm as a mux then you need to resend all on a specific port, no way as of today to send only RMC.
You cannot compile yourself, qtVlm is closed-source, sorry.
It will work out of the box on Rasbian (never tested on a RPI4 but some users have reported it works), for Ubuntu I guess we would need a special build (not an easy task believe me). Maybe you can try with the Raspbian build and see what it says?
Why not using Raspbian instead of Ubuntu which is much heavier?
Philippe.

I confirm, it works pretty well on RPI4 !
